RALLY MUFFLER MOD FOR STOCK MUFFLER
"What is a Rally Muffler?", you may ask. Quick Answer: It is a modified stock muffler originally used by rally racing teams.
- Used on any Type 1 performance engine that is not stroked and uses the type 1 Muffler.
- Good for engines up to 128hp. Originally was ran on a 1900cc mill in rally car.
- Advantage: Sleeper, no one will know you have a hot engine.
- Clearance is excellent compared to other performance exhausts.
- What is the cost? Very economical mod. I used a muffler I had in the shed for the past 15 years. So far I'm borrowing my friends welder and spent $10 on a 1.25" od pipe. So it can be very economical.

Yes, mod your stock VW for vintage performance. For several years I've been a fan of the Rally Beetles that had been popular in Europe from the beginning VW owners and enthusiasts had been tweaking the spartan and cute Beetle and air-cooled VW models for more power.
In fact there were Porsche VW Beetles and directly precursors to the classic Porsche 356. The Porsche Type 39, one survivor exists today. It is also known as the Pretzel Beetle. Arduous testing of different performance motors was done and all contributed to the development of the 356. To learn more about that here's the link to the Porsche article at Newsroom Porsche. On to the muffler mod!
